My Disney Mulan Costume – Honor to us all!

You bring honor to us all! This is me (Czari Flores) dressed up as Mulan. Costume was completely hand-sewn by me. Japanese umbrella was from Divisoria. White flower and earrings were made by Lyron Aquino. Hairstyle was done by Make Me Up’s Ara Caoili. Rush make up by me, which I did during the event itself. These photos were taken at the SHUUREN event in U.P. Los Banos. ^_^

Dream Come True: First time to use a professional sewing machine and now learning from a Master Cutter-Tailor

"Cosplayer Czari Flores - using professional juki sewing machine - costume cosplay for goo hara from kara music video we're with you - pink cheerleader"

They say that when the student is ready, the master will appear. For many months now, I have been creating my costumes on my own, by guessing how to make patterns, cutting textiles, and doing the sewing all by hand. I did buy a beginner’s sewing machine before, but at the end of the day I just conclude that my own fingers are still more reliable. I found it easier to control by hand those annoying fabric like spandex and charmuse.

But hand-sewing, making mistakes in patternmaking and cutting, and re-doing things are undoubtedly time-consuming. At some point, they can also be frustrating.

Then…Master Cutter/Tailor Mr. Rodel appeared.

Cosplay: Mari Illustrious Makinami goes to school in pink plug suit

"Czari Flores - Filipino Philippines Cosplayer Blogger - Mari Illustrious Makinami - pink plug suit - evangelion movie - costume - classroom anime live action - chalkboard background - teacher - school - student - banner"

I went to Hong Kong last December and chanced upon a long brown wig there. It’s not the perfect one for my pink Mari Illustrious Makinami costume but it’s way better than what I wore before at Otaku Expo Reload. My real hair isn’t thick enough as well to look cartoony, so a really good wig is a must.

I wore this pink plug suit costume again at the D15GUISE event in the Ateneo, using the new wig. We had an impromptu photo shoot in one of the classrooms there. The following are some of the photos ^_^

Model: Czari Flores

Character: Mari Illustrious Makinami (in pink plug suit)

The most popular OPM song today – “Hey Daydreamer” by SOMEDAYDREAM, the Philippines’ own Owl City

"Banner - Czari Flores with Somedaydream Rez Toleda and manager Hale Champ Lui Pio at Magic 89.9 radio station - popular Filipino song Hey Daydreamer - some day dream - by Czari Cosplayer"

I know that the title is way too long, but it’s just really so hard to shorten my descriptions for this remarkable guy, Rez Toledo, who’s been making me and thousand others proud to be Filipinos once again. Recently, you may have heard on the radio this very catchy new synthpop-like song that goes, “Hey, daydreamer. You gotta be prepared to leave her in your fantasy…”

When I first heard it on Magic 89.9, I liked it a lot right away. And I wanted to listen to it over and over again. I didn’t know yet what the title was and who the actual singer was, but I just guessed that it was probably a random established foreign artist. Another guess I had was that the song was probably by the popular singer Owl City / Adam Young (American synthpop music), with that boyish and refreshing voice.

Mulan says “Happy Chinese New Year!”

"Happy Chinese New Year 2011 Year of the Rabbit - Mulan - Czari Flores - banner"

What I like most about February is TIKOY! Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! =)

For the first cosplay event I attended this February 2011, I chose to wear my Mulan costume to be timely with the Chinese New Year. The event’s theme though was “Shuuren: Bridging the Gap Between Japanese and Filipino Cultures”; it was Japanese and not Chinese. But that’s okay because cosplaying per se is still very Japanese. This was the second time I wore this Mulan costume.
