What I like most about February is TIKOY! Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! =)
For the first cosplay event I attended this February 2011, I chose to wear my Mulan costume to be timely with the Chinese New Year. The event’s theme though was “Shuuren: Bridging the Gap Between Japanese and Filipino Cultures”; it was Japanese and not Chinese. But that’s okay because cosplaying per se is still very Japanese. This was the second time I wore this Mulan costume.
The first was when I visited Disneyland in Hong Kong.
Visit this link to read about my cosplay in Disneyland and about why I like the character Fa Mulan.
If there’s going to be a Mulan live-action Hollywood movie, who’s the actress whom you think will best fit the role of Mulan? Perhaps Zhang Ziyi because she’s one of the most famous Chinese actresses today? Well, you may have heard about it already, that last September 2010 it was announced that Zhang Ziyi is really going to make an English-version movie of Mulan, together with director Jan De Bont. The filming has already begun this year 2011. I am really looking forward to that movie!
And have you heard the Chinese (Cantonese) version of Mulan’s Reflection? The famous Engish version was of course sung by Filipina Lea Salonga. The Cantonese version was also very beautifully done. Check it out below via this YouTube video.
